As with many other writers on this week’s Daily Post: Forces of Nature, I’m city-bound. In a stable, northern climate, the most force nature generally exerts on me is to choke up my summers with sweltering heat and humidity whereby I am forcefully bound to do no more than sweat gently into my couch.

The arrival of spring, however, tips the balance of the stark, dead city winter. In all the green spaces, nature is bursting forth in all its glory. Skillfully contained chaos abounds. Cracks in paths are suddenly alive with growth. Dead, brown verges spring into life in every park and alongside every walkway. The public spaces we abandoned to the winter last autumn are a riot of weeds and buds and must be tamed before the summer season begins.

In no time at all, these steps with be pruned and swept and pristine again. I enjoy them while they’re still wild.

What extremes does nature spring upon you?
